Brian Burgess, one of the key figures in Brentford FC’s move from Griffin Park to Lionel Road, is to tell the story in a special Bees United sponsored and initiated commemorative book. Brian, a former Chairman of Bees United and Deputy Chairman of Brentford FC, will give his account as part of this celebration of Brentford FC’s memorable 116-year history at Griffin Park and the move to the new community stadium.
David Lane of Legends Publishing, who has for many years specialised in the publishing of high quality Brentford-related titles, will produce the book and it will be a full-colour 48-page A5 publication.
The book will provide a brief, outline account of the history and heritage of Griffin Park and include a timeline and loving photographic reminders of the many great and unforgettable matches and events that have taken place in the iconic stadium.
Brentford historian and BU Board member, Greville Waterman, who will oversee the project said; “The book will reveal for the first time details of how the move to Lionel Road came about, including the obstacles that first needed to be overcome, and also outline the involvement of the then Brentford owner Ron Noades, the formation and importance of the ABeeC political party and the fans’ resistance to other temporary ground sharing options, such as a mooted move to Woking FC”.
Brian Burgess will provide his insights which will highlight the crucial and leading role that Bees United played in ensuring the survival of Brentford FC and overseeing its move to Lionel Road.

Paul Stedman ,who became the leader of the ABeeC Party, has written a great chapter about the Ron Noades era, how his candidate won a seat on the local council and how this victory helped the battle for a new stadium.
The BU book will be available free of charge to all Bees United members in October 2020.
