Brentford were represented, once again, last weekend at the annual WorldNET tournament which was making a welcome return – amid searing heat – to Nottingham University. The WorldNET tournament, which has been running for more than 20 years, is for supporters’ teams from all parts of the United Kingdom.
The tournament comprises a series of group games on Day One (Saturday) and then a knockout tournament on the Sunday – with ties determined by finishing positions on Day One. The Brentford Veterans (at least nine players need to be aged 35+) won both of their group games on Day One to comfortably top their group. The Bees beat Watford 1-0 and repeated the same scoreline against Portsmouth; both goals coming from Gaz Wilson.
On the Sunday the team comfortably beat a valiant Halifax team in the first round – both goals coming from Alex Banks. The team bowed out in the quarter finals when they were beaten by a talented West Bromwich Albion team which boasted a former Premier League player and a number of semi-professionals among their ranks.
The tournament was won eventually won by Rotherham who defeated Ipswich 2-0 in the final.
The team are pictured here immediately before the Watford game and are boasting new kit – the team would like to express thanks for the support they have received by Brentford Football Club and 1stitchbeyond.com
